Setting goals, big or small, is a powerful way to accomplish the things you want out of life. But actually achieving those goals is where most people fall short.
If you’ve set goals time and time again, without achieving the thing you want so badly, a clear action plan is exactly what you need!
In this post, I am going to walk through how to achieve goals by creating an epic action plan!
Let’s dive in!
Set A Clear & Specific Goal
Before you create an action plan, you need a clear and specific goal to base it on.
This is where many people go wrong. If your goal is vague, your action plan won’t work because there is no clear direction!
Instead, your goals should be SMART.
For example, “Save $1,000 by December” is a clear, actionable goal, while “Save money” is not.
Another important tip when setting goals is to focus on inputs you can control, rather than outcomes you can’t.
For instance, “I will post on TikTok three times a week” is something you can control.
“I want 10,000 followers” is not.
That follower count can absolutely be part of your vision, but creating actionable, controllable goals is what actually moves you closer to that result. The inputs matter more than the outcome.
If you’re reading this post, you probably already have a goal in mind. But if you need help clarifying what you want to focus on or where to start, I recommend doing a life audit.
A life audit helps you visualize what you want out of life, reflect on your current reality, set goals, and create an action plan for them!

How To Achieve Goals With An Epic Action Plan
Now that you have your goals set, it is time to create your action plan!
An action plan is literally what it sounds like. A plan of action for your goals.
Instead of dreaming about what it would feel like to achieve your goals, your action plan gives you the steps you need to make it a reality!
So how do you create an action plan that actually works?
Identify the Action Steps
First, you need to identify all the actions that will help you accomplish your goal.
This step is all about brainstorming! Start by working backward from your goal and listing everything that would need to happen for you to reach it (big or small!)
Larger goals, like launching a business or paying off debt, may have a long list of tasks that build on one another in order to achieve it.
Smaller goals, on the other hand, may be a shorter list of actions and habits that will help you get closer to reaching your goal.
For example, if your goal is to “Pay off $5,000 in debt by December 2026,” your action steps might include:
- Listing all of your debts and balances
- Creating a budget
- Set monthly debt payoff targets
- Review spending
- Schedule weekly budget check-ins
- Call debt collectors for discounts or payment plans

There is no right or wrong way to brainstorm, and there are many avenues you can take to accomplish your goal. What matters most is that you come up with a list of clear actionable steps that will help you build your plan in the next steps!
Break Goals Into Monthly, Weekly & Daily Tasks
You’ve already brainstormed actions, but now it’s time to break down that list into monthly, weekly, and daily tasks! This is where your action plan comes to life.
When I’m working toward a goal, I always start with 1–3 monthly priorities. These are the big chunks or steps that will actually move you closer to your goal and help you progress to the next phase.
For example, when I was building out my blog and course, one month was focused entirely on filming and editing content. If your goal is paying off debt, that month might be focused on paying off one specific balance. Everything else for the month revolves around that focus.
Once you know your monthly goal, break it down at the beginning of each week. Look at your monthly priorities and ask yourself: What needs to get done this week to stay on track?
Those become your weekly tasks!
From there, schedule and time-block your daily tasks so your day-to-day actions actually align with your goals! This is key!
Aligning your daily, weekly, and monthly tasks to your larger picture goal is where you start to make real progress toward achieving your goals!
Over time, many of these weekly and daily tasks naturally turn into habits.
For example, if your goal is to lose 10 pounds and run a 5K by June, going to the gym four times a week becomes a non-negotiable habit. It gets scheduled and time-blocked into your week, just like any other commitment.
And that’s exactly why habits matter so much when it comes to achieving your goals!
We’ll dive deeper into habit-building in another post, but for now, know that consistency matters more than anything when it comes to achieving your goals!
Step #3: Check In, Adjust & Celebrate Your Progress
Creating an action plan is important, but actually checking in with yourself is what keeps you moving forward!
Checking in is about taking a step back regularly and asking, Is this still working for me? Weekly or monthly check-ins help you reflect, reset, and make changes before you burn out or give up altogether!
Personally, I like to do this at the beginning of the week while I’m planning and scheduling the days ahead. I also do a similar check-in at the beginning of each month to make sure my goals and priorities still make sense!
When you check in, ask yourself:
- What’s working well right now?
- Where did I get stuck or fall behind?
- What needs to carry over or change going forward?
- What progress can I celebrate?
Your goals and plans are allowed to change as your life changes. Adjusting your approach doesn’t mean you failed. It means you’re being intentional instead of quitting and starting over!
And don’t skip celebrating your progress, even the small stuff! Those little wins add up and help keep you motivated!
Achieving your goals is about creating clear systems, taking intentional action, and checking in with yourself along the way.
If you want more clarity and guidance throughout this action plan process, a life audit can be a powerful tool. Life audits help you reflect on your current reality, adjust your goals as life changes, and build action plans that actually fit your life.
I personally use life audits every time I am going after a new goal and that’s exactly why I created the Life Audit Blueprint. It walks you step-by-step through gaining clarity, setting aligned goals, and creating an action plan you can come back to again and again.
