Vision boards are a great tool for identifying your goals and long-term vision, but people often struggle to create one that actually works.
For years, I would scroll Pinterest, print photos, and make vision boards that never worked for me…  Until recently.
Since I have learned how to make a vision board that works, my vision board is now strategic in a way that aligns with my goals, habits, and the life I want to create!
And if you’ve ever struggled or failed to create a vision board that works, this post is for you!

Reflect On The Past Year + Your Current Reality

Before you begin to build your vision board, you must reflect on the past year and your current reality.

This is a crucial part when you are learning how to make a vision board that works.

In order to create a vision board that is aligned with your goals and effective at helping you achieve them, it is important to be honest with yourself about where you are and where you want to be.

I recommend journaling and meditating to help you reflect before building your vision board

Here is a list of possible journal prompts to help you reflect during this step:

  • What do I want more of in the next year? Less of?
  • What version of myself am I ready to step into?
  • What areas of my life need attention to create my dream life?

If you want a deeper reflection before building your vision board, I created a FREE download with 50 guided journal prompts designed to help you reflect, reset, and realign your goals.

These prompts walk you through your mindset, habits, goals, finances, and lifestyle so you can create a vision board that actually works for you and the life you are wanting to create!

Define Your Dream Life and Future Self

Now it’s time to visualize who you want to be and what you want your dream life to look like.
Imagine yourself in one year, 3 years, 5 years.
What has changed? What do you do? How do you represent yourself? Where do you live? Who do you really want to become?
This is your time to let your thoughts roam free! Without shame or judgment from others, what do you want your life to look like?
Visualizing these things will help you identify your priorities, set your goals, create your vision, and build an action plan.

Identify Your Yearly Goals Across All Areas of Life

This step is critical to creating a vision board that is aligned with the life you want to create.
Before you can begin building your vision board, you must identify your priorities and goals.
I highly recommend auditing each area of your life. Identify where you are currently and what you want to change about each area of your life.
Break down your life into categories like:
  • Personal Development
  • Finances
  • Career / Business
  • Health / Wellness
  • Home / Environment
  • Relationships
  • Travel / Experiences
Choose which categories you would like to focus on, or that need the most attention, and identify your priorities.
Then, choose your top 1-3 main goals for your year. Do not pick too many goals, or you will become overwhelmed and lessen your chances of achieving them!

How to Find Vision Board Inspiration on Pinterest (The Right Way)

Pinterest is hands down the BEST place to gather images for your vision board!

First, make a new Pinterest Board for your vision board. (Ex. Vision Board 2026)

Search for photos, aesthetics, routines, environments, and quotes that match the life you’re working toward. I like to find photos for each main area of my life for an overall vision.

Think of keywords like “business owner aesthetic,” “calm morning routine,” “healthy lifestyle,” or anything tied to your priorities.

You should focus on the feelings that these images evoke, and how they relate to your priorities and goals.

Pin everything that resonates, then choose the strongest 10–20 images for your vision board.

How to Create a Vision Board That Actually Works

First, print out your photos or upload them to Canva!
And now it’s time to make it official!
Begin laying out the design for your vision board.
I recommend grouping your photos by category or life goal.
Doing it this way makes it easy to correlate the photo with the vision later.
Gluing the photos down, or finalizing the design in Canva, makes it real and solidifies your vision. It’s symbolic, but important!
And if there’s any resistance to finalizing your vision board, reflect on why. Is it not aligning with you? Are you afraid of your goals or vision?
Confronting these feelings will help you further identify any limiting beliefs or mental blocks you may have about your vision.

Turn Your Vision Board Into an Action Plan

Just because you have created your vision board, it doesn’t mean you’re done!
This is where the vision becomes a strategy through the creation of an action plan.
To create an action plan for your vision board, you’ll need to break down your goals, identify habits and routines that will support your journey, and outline your next steps.
Look at your vision board and the priorities /goals you set for this season.
Identify all the action steps that you may need to take to achieve it.
Ask yourself what changes you need to make and what habits or routines you can adopt to achieve your vision.
Use these action steps and changes to break down each goal into smaller quarterly, monthly, and weekly goals.
These smaller goals will be the actions you take to make your vision board a reality.
Which is why it’s called an action plan!
A vision board only works when it’s paired with action. The Life Audit Blueprint walks you, step by step, through turning your vision into a realistic action plan, using guided exercises and worksheets to ensure your vision board becomes a reality!

Make It Part Of Your Routine

Lastly, place your vision board somewhere you will see it daily!
Vision boards are not something you can set and forget. They are meant to be a daily reminder of your goals and vision!
This could be on your phone or computer, in your bedroom or wherever you get ready, at your desk, anywhere!
I keep mine in my bathroom so I see it during my morning and nighttime routine every day!
It is CRUCIAL you keep it somewhere you will see and reflect on it daily if you want to build a vision board that *actually* works!
A vision board isn’t about perfect aesthetics or hopeful wishes; it’s about alignment, priorities, and intention.
